Soon, Sacred Heart Hospital, Abeokuta, Ogun State, believed to be the oldest health facility in Nigeria, will clock120 years. The foremost health facility was established in Egbaland in those days by white missionaries of the Catholic persuasion, and ever since, the facility has stood out as a beacon of hope to the Nigerian health sector. Many who frequent the hospital and can attest to this are happy that it has unrelentlessly cared and catered for many generations of Nigerians, a role its proprietors: the Catholic Church and by extension the Christian Health Association of Nigeria (CHAN) count as a mission fulfilled.

Recently, CHAN members from its headquarters in Jos, Plateau State and others from Zone D comprising Delta, Edo, Lagos, Ogun Oyo, Osun, Ondo and Ekiti states converged on Sacred Heart Hospital in Lantoro, to examine how several hundreds of hospitals in their care had fared in the past months.

Ado – Ekiti – The Ekiti State chapter of Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), on Tuesday said seven doctors have received threats of kidnap from unknown gunmen.

This is coming barely one week after the former Chief Medical Director of Ekiti State University Teaching Hospital, Dr Patrick Adegun and a nurse with Federal Teaching Hospital, Ido-Ekiti, Mrs Margaret Aladenika, were kidnapped.

Adegun was kidnapped alongside his wife, Kikelomo, a few metres to the gate of their house located on Goshen Avenue, Federal Housing in Ado Ekiti metropolis.

One in every three Nigerians is hypertensive.  Hypertension, also referred to as high blood pressure, is a condition in which the arteries have persistently elevated blood pressure. Every time the human heart beats, it pumps blood to the whole body through the arteries.

According to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Carlisle Healthcare, Mrs Shade  Animashaun, hypertenstion has been noted o lead to grave ailments and diseases that bring about other chronic diseases.

Mrs Animashaun  attributed stress and lifestyle of Nigerians as a major contributor to the disease which seemingly have no visible symptoms.
