A video clip showing an ex-commissioner in Zamfara State reportedly engaged in an explicit sexual activity with an unidentified lady in a room has surfaced.

The former commissioner was a member of the recently dissolved cabinet in the state.

The two-minute video clip which was obtained by Daily Trust has attracted criticism and condemnation from some people, who are demanding he be arrested and prosecuted.

Some residents who have seen the video have described it as the most scandalous video in the history of the state and others are wondering why he got involved in such illicit act.



It is unknown who recorded the sex video, whether a third party in the act or a mounted camera. Some are however, insinuating one of the actors might have been recorded it because of the unsteadiness of the recording.

When Malam Ibrahim Wakkala Muhammad, the state deputy governor was approached by journalists, he said he would not stop anyone from publishing the story but it would be better if the story was left alone.

When the ex-commissioner involved in the sex video was contacted, he said: “I am on my way to Gusau, give me some time and I would call you back when I arrive, please.”

Despite promising to call back, he did not.

Spokesman of the state police command, DSP Sanusi Amiru, said he could not comment on the issue as he was yet to see the video.

With the award of a rig contract to carry out the drilling and completion programme for the Aje shallow-water field offshore Lagos, the first oil production is expected to begin in the state by December this year.

The operator of the Oil Mining Lease 113 has, on behalf of the joint venture partners, entered into a rig contract with Saipem for the Scarabeo 3 drilling rig to carry out the drilling and completion programme for the Aje Field Cenomanian oil development, Panoro Energy said in a statement on Monday.

The joint venture partners led by Yinka Folawiyo Petroleum Company Limited (the operator) had in October last year taken the final investment decision to develop the first phase of the Aje field.

According to the statement, the Scarabeo 3 rig is a semi-submersible rig currently stationed offshore Lagos. The rig will be moved 18 nautical miles to the Aje drilling location and will be used to carry out well operations for the first phase of the Aje Cenomanian Oil field development that includes two subsea production wells.

It said the well operations would comprise the completion of the existing Aje-4 well as a production well, and the drilling and completion of a new well, Aje-5, which would be drilled to the Aje-2 subsurface location.

The Aje-2 well is said to have demonstrated high reservoir productivity in a Cenomanian production test conducted in 1997, flowing approximately 3,700 barrels of oil per day of 41˚API oil under suboptimal well conditions.

 The Peoples Democratic Party, PDP in its own intervention, chided the APC over its threat of sanctions on the new National Assembly leadership, saying the ruling party had proved to all that it was not prepared for governance.

Chief Olisa Metuh, the National Publicity Secretary tried to play down his enthusiasm over the distress of the ruling party yesterday.
“We want them to survive because the key to the stability of the country is in the survival of the party because they are in power,” Metuh said in a telephone discussion. That was a farfetch from the Metuh of before who before now had been severally quoted as describing the APC as group of power seekers only united by a common quest for power.
Last Tuesday as the power quest by the different tendencies in the party peaked during the National Assembly leadership contests, references to Chief Metuh’s questions on the survival of the ruling party inevitably came to mind.

Nigerians want to see a proactive National Assembly that will devote itself to rigorous thinking, rolling up sleeves to forge a new and prosperous Nigeria.
“As the President of the 8th Senate and the Chairman of this National Assembly, I shall be guided by the enormity of the responsibilities that this moment imposes on us all. “As a first among equals, I shall strive at all times to be just, equitable and fair to all. I shall work with you all to build a National Assembly that will enjoy greater confidence and trust among the people that we represent.

 This calls to question the capacity, experience and skills of APC leaders on political matters and we have no apology whatsoever for their naivety. “The APC is merely suffering the consequences of the greed, lust for power and inordinate ambitions of their leaders. They should note that Nigerians have since moved ahead with the new leaders in the National Assembly and stop wasting their energy on propaganda and blackmails to heat up the polity”.
The PDP further condemned Tuesday’s botched attempts by the APC to close the National Assembly and stop lawmakers from carrying out their constitutional duties, as well as the threats to the newly elected leaders as “totally against the tenets of democracy, the principles of separation of powers and independence of the legislature as enshrined in the constitution”.

The police on Monday arraigned a 70-year-old man, Isa Hussaini, at the Upper Customary Court, Sabongari, Zaria, for stealing a goat.
Hussaini, a resident of Funtua Local Government Area in Katsina State is facing a one-count charge of theft.
The prosecutor, Cpl. Bashir Abdullahi, told the court that the matter was reported through a distress call by the village head of Yakawada,
Alhaji Rilwanu Yakawada in Giwa Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
He said that on June 2, Hussaini was found in possession of a goat suspected to be stolen.
Abdullahi said that when the suspect was challenged, he confessed to the theft, contrary to Section 319 (a) of the penal code.

32-year-old housewife, Nancy (surname withheld) in Okpanam Community, near Asaba Delta State, has allegedly stabbed herself to death following the failure of the husband to fulfill his conjugal responsibility at the weekend.

It was reliably gathered that the woman, an evangelist with a prominent church in the area, had complained bitterly to her relations about her husband’s “weakness” during sexual intercourse, threatening that she cannot stand it anymore.

But insiders said that she got married to the man, a highly placed mechanical engineer (name withheld) without premarital sex, and is said to have grumbled after the situation confronted her.

Trouble started last Saturday night after the husband reportedly failed to perform again; and she allegedly took the decision to kill herself by stabbing herself in the stomach.

Police officers at the Okpanam Police Division, who confirmed the incident but did not want their names in the print, said they saw her lifeless body in her room after the husband had gone to work.No arrest had yet been made at the time of filing this report as investigation was ongoing.

A Nigerian businessman based in Johannesburg, South Africa, Mr Emmanuel Onyekaozuru, 50, was killed on Sunday by gunmen. The President of Nigeria Union in South Africa, Mr Ikechukwu Anyene, on Monday told newsmen in Pretoria, South Africa, that Onyekaozuru was shot by two gunmen.

‘’ The union has received a report that a Nigerian businessman, Emmanuel Onyekaozuru, was shot in his business premises at 9.00 p.m. yesterday (June 7). ‘’ The report said that the gunmen shot the deceased and escaped in a car.

‘’ The incident has been reported to the police and the Nigerian Consul General in South Africa,’’ he said. Anyene said that the union would work with the consul general and the police to ensure that justice was done in the case.

He is married with three children. ‘’ He is an indigene of Abatete in Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State,’’ he said.Anyene also said that the gunmen did not remove anything from the business premises of the deceased. ‘’This is one death too many and we are not happy that a Nigerian has been killed,’’ he said.

Before her death, beautiful Adaku Abel was a 200 level Business Administration student at the Accra Institute of Technology. She had been declared missing after the Ghana Accra flood that killed over 150 people.

WASHINGTON, June 4 (Reuters) – The United States will send a team to Nigeria in the next few weeks to discuss with the new government ways to renew cooperation in the fight against the Islamist militant group Boko Haram, a senior US diplomat said on Thursday.
Washington has quickly reached out to new President Muhammadu Buhari since his election victory in March and sent US Secretary of State John Kerry to his inauguration last week to underscore US interest in working with his government.
Tensions emerged between the former government of President Goodluck Jonathan and the Obama administration last year over corruption and human rights abuses by the Nigerian military in its campaign to crush Boko Haram.
In his inauguration speech, Buhari vowed to defeat Boko Haram and called the group, which pledged allegiance to the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq in March, “mindless” and “godless.”
“With the new government we are optimistic we can reset the relationship,” US Assistant Secretary of State for Africa, Linda Thomas-Greenfield, told a congressional hearing. “We want to work with him and have expressed that to him.”

Rivers State Government has banned the consumption of local gin popularly called Ogogoro following the death of about 22 persons in Bonny Island, Bonny, and Woji in Obio Akpor local government areas of Rivers.
They died after consuming dog meat delicacy and local gin popularly called ‘Kai-Kai’ or Ogogoro which allegedly contained poisonous ethanol.
The Rivers government through the Department of Disease Control said the ban became necessary measure to avoid more people consuming the toxic substance.
The Director of Disease Control in state ministry of Health, Dr. Roland Obed Whyte, however expressed concern over the difficulty in getting samples of the particular gin through clinical analysis because the irate youths of Woji had set ablaze the shop of Friday Dickson, aka Etiaba where the suspected toxic gin was bought and consumed erasing the remaining samples of the gin. Dickson is presently in the custody of the Police.

More than 70 people were killed in a fire at a petrol station in Ghana’s capital, Accra, as they sought shelter from heavy rains that caused widespread flooding, the police and Red Cross said Thursday.
“This loss of life is catastrophic and almost unprecedented,” a visibly shaken President John Dramani Mahama said as he toured the scene.
“A lot of people have lost their lives and I am lost for words.”
Communications minister Edward Omane Boamah described the situation as a “national emergency”.
A senior police officer said that “the fire service alone has retrieved about 73 bodies,” while Red Cross disaster management coordinator Francis Obeng put the death toll at “more than 70″.
Local hospitals said morgues were full, with the death toll likely to rise, according to security officials.
The fire broke out late on Wednesday night in the Kwame Nkrumah Circle area of central Accra and is thought to have spread from a nearby residence.

The Bayelsa House of Assembly on Wednesday inaugurated the 5th State Assembly after the fourth held a valedictory session.
NAN reports that members of the outgoing Assembly took turns to speak on their experiences and expressed appreciation to their constituents.

The Speaker of the 4TH Assembly, Mr Kombowei Benson, (PDP- Southern Ijaw Constituency I) re-emerged unopposed as the speaker of the 5TH Assembly in an election conducted by Clerk of the House, Mr Aaron Timiye.
Mr Abraham Agobere, (PDP-Brass Constituency III) emerged as the Deputy Speaker, while Mr Peter Akpe, (PDP Sagbama Constituency 1) got the position of Majority Leader.
Mr Tonye Esene was appointed Chief Whip of the Assembly.
Speaking shortly after the inauguration of the Assembly, the Speaker urged the members of the house to cooperate with other arms of government in the overall interest of the state.

The Senate on Wednesday unanimously approves the request of President Muhammadu Buhari to appoint 15 Special Advisers.
The motion for approval of the request made in a letter by Buhari to the Senate on Tuesday was moved by Senate Leader, Senator Ndoma Egba and supported by Senator Ganiyu Solomon in accordance with section in accordance with section 151(2) of the Federal Republic of Nigeria constitution.
The Senators subsequently voted unanimously to approve the request when the question was put to vote by Senator David Mark, the President of the Senate.
The President had in the letter to the Senate on Tuesday said the 15 Special Advisers will help him to carry out his functions as President and Commander in Chief of the Armed Forces said his request was in accordance with the constitution of Nigeria.
However, the names of the persons to be appointed were not read on the floor of the Chamber.

The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association of Nigeria (PENGASSAN) has called on President Muhamadu Buhari to increase local refining capacity before embarking on any deregulation process
This is contained in a statement on Tuesday by PENGASSAN National Public Relations Officer, Mr Emmanuel Ojugbana.
The union called on the president to ensure that the focus of deregulation policy was based on local production rather than importation.
It said that if local refining was not increased to meet local demand for petroleum products, especially the premium motor spirit (petrol), removing subsidy on petroleum products would bring more hardship on Nigeria.
It stated that removing subsidy while the country depended on importation of refined products would make prices of refined products to be out of the reach of the masses and would cause inflation.

President Muhammadu Buhari is likely to keep the oil portfolio for himself in the new Nigerian cabinet, rather than trust anyone else with the source of most of Nigeria’s revenue and traditional fount of corruption, associates say.
Nigeria’s oil sector is so dirty that nobody’s hands are clean enough to do the “surgical changes” needed, one long-standing associate told Reuters on condition of anonymity because the cabinet decision is still under wraps.
Another political associate said: “He will do it. It would be stupid to give that position to anyone else.”
The first source said Buhari has still not settled on his cabinet and has laughed off media speculation about figures he will appoint, joking with friends as he read out a newspaper article that mentioned possible names: “They have picked my ministers for me! Have I even told you who I want?”

A statement by the Chief Press Secretary to the FCT Minister, Mohammed Sule, in Abuja on Tuesday, said the examination will take place at 10am at the National Universities Commission Auditorium, Maitama District, Abuja, after screening exercise of qualified candidates between 7am and 9am .
It said candidates were  expected to come with their PIN number slip obtained from the bank and acknowledgement letter downloaded from the Internet.
“Other materials the prospective candidates are expected to come along with are two  postcard size photograph (3.5”x5”) and JAMB result slip of not less than 180 score,” the statement added.

Chairman, Orumba South Local Government Area of Anambra State, Mr. John Onyeakpa, was on Tuesday served with an impeachment notice.
Out of the 18 councilors of the council, 16 endorsed the move t0 impeach the LG chairman.
The resolution of his removal was signed by the Clerk of the House, Okoye Samuel.
The council legislators accused the chairman of mismanagement of public funds and gross misconduct.
Allegations leveled against the chairman also included that he received over N4.2m as refund of money spent during his inauguration.
The resolution of the House, dated June 2, 2015, was made available to newsmen by the council members.

At least five persons have been confirmed dead at Woji, Obio/Akpor Local Government Area of Rivers State, after eating dog meat from a popular inn in the area. Operatives of National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, yesterday at the Murtala Muhammed International Airport, Lagos, arrested two housewives for ingesting about 2.635 kilogrammes of cocaine and hiding some quantity in their underwear and private part.
They arrested by the operatives while attempting to board a Qatar Airways flight to China.
One of the suspects, Mrs. Alaka Deburah Uzoma, 47, was found with 1.180 kilogrammes of cocaine as she inserted 260 grammes of substance in her private part and also ingested 60 wraps weighing 920 grammes.
The second suspect, Mrs. Chukwujekwu Chinyere Priscilla, a 45 years old housewife, was caught with 1.455 kilogrammes of cocaine as she packed 59 wraps on her body, inserted one parcel  weighing 1.285 kilogrammes in her vagina and ingested ten wraps weighing 170 grams.

LAST Friday, while thousands of Lagosians came out en masse at the Tafawa Balewa Square (TBS), Lagos to celebrate the inauguration of Akinwunmi Ambode as the 14th  Governor of Lagos State, it was tears for youths of Gbaji-Seme, a border community in Badagry West Local  Council Development Area of Lagos State, as they lamented lack of electricity for 16 years.
According to the youths, who stormed the inauguration venue in their hundreds, under the umbrella of Gbaji-Seme Border Youth Initiative (GSBYI), the community with over 30 villages and a population of about 100, 000 people, has been in perpetual darkness since 1999.
The electricity crisis resulted from a devastating rainstorm which  destroyed almost all the electric polls and transformers that connected the villages to the national grid.
Since then they said,  promises by successive administrations at the local, state and federal levels to fix the problem have gone unfulfilled.

Aba—Aba, Abia State, unit of the Civil Liberties Organization, CLO, has called on Governor Okezie Ikpeazu to declare a state of emergency on waste management in the city.
 The group said this had become necessary to avert the looming epidemic which might break out over heaps of refuse littering most parts of the city.
 CLO in a statement by the chairman, Dr. Charles Chinekezi, lamented that the situation had constituted a nuisance and serious health hazards to residents of the city. It called on the governor to use his experience as a former general manager of the state environmental protection agency to develop a better waste management strategy in the state

Boko Haram militants on Tuesday launched a renewed attack on Maiduguri just days after the military repelled an assault on the key city. Residents said the Islamists arrived in the Moronti area of the city by river but were unable to advance further because of wide ditches and embankments dug by soldiers around the city limits.
 They then began shelling Ajillari Cross, about three kilometres (two miles) away at about 12:45 am. There was no immediate word on damage or casualties.
 “We were bombarded by RPGs (rocket-propelled grenades) by Boko Haram from Moronti,” Isa Mala, who lives in Ajillari Cross, told newmen. “We all left our homes for fear of being hit inside.

CALABAR- SENATOR Ben Ayade, the Cross River State governor has scrapped the weekly Executive Council meetings where the governor and his deputy meet with commissioners special advisers and permanent secretaries to review the activities of government in the state. Senator Ayade during a closed door meeting with permanent secretaries in the state public and civil service Tuesday directed that in place of the weekly meeting, there will be a monthly interactive session in the executive Council Chambers.
 The governor in the meeting with the permanent secretaries also scraped the anti-deforestation taskforce put in place by his predecessor, Senator Liyel Imoke to checkmate the illegal logging of large forest reserves in the state for which the United Nations has granted 600 million dollars for the carbon credit accruing from the forest reserves.

Three thousand commercial sex workers have been arrested by the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Special Task Team on City Cleaning and Management in the last 90 days.

They have been handed over to the Abuja Environmental Protection Board (AEPB) for prosecution and rehabilitation.
The task team also arrested 2,534 street hawkers and beggars. One hundred and two strayed animals were removed from illegal cattle markets in Gudu and other parts of the city during the period.

The team impounded 4,790 commercial motorcycles, 883 Keke Napep, 645 unpainted commercial vehicles and 84 illegal commercial buses.

The Police in Borno said five persons died when a suicide bomber attacked an abattoir in Maiduguri on Tuesday.
The Commissioner of Police in the State, Aderemi Opadokun, stated this when he spoke with journalists in Maiduguri.
Mr. Opadokun said the attack occurred at about 11.30 a.m.
“A suicide bomber, who was shouting “Sai Buhari”, and dancing in the abattoir, detonated Improvised Explosive Device strapped on his body when people had gathered around him.
“Five people, including himself, died, while eight others sustained injuries,” he said.
Mr. Opadokun added that policemen were mobilised to the scene to evacuate the corpses and the convey the injured to the hospital, adding that investigation into the blast was ongoing.
