Senator-elect, Alhaji Shehu Sani, has called on the incoming Muhammadu Buhari administration to stop the importation of rice as Nigeria is capable of providing rice for its citizens.
Sani, who posted a message on Facebook, said, “We spend millions of hard foreign exchange earnings to import rice from Asia. We lose billions of naira in tax revenue giving waivers to rich rice importers. Kebbi rice farmers have produced more than enough to feed the country and the problem is no patronage.”
Also speaking on oil sector reforms, the human rights activist said those given approval to build private refineries were not sincere.
